Of course not everything is all singing and dancing. Couple this with the rather impressive graphics for the PlayStation and you are presented with a game that is strong on storyline, whilst at the same time being at the higher end of the graphics food chain. Walk a couple of paces and another cut scene will set the story on its next legs, giving you the feeling that sometime you aren't even playing a game. Set in a landscape similar to the likes of Resident Evil and Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve 2 oozes with Hollywood cut sequences and a storyline to match. You play Aya, an FBI agent investigating a string of strange incidents involving Neo-Mitochondrion Creatures-a small spherical rod-like-bodied creature bounded by a double membrane in the cytoplasm of most cells to you and me. uk Reviewįighting off a deadly virus isn't everybody's cup of tea, but to Aya Brea, the returning star of Parasite Eve 2, it is. Also on your side is Aya's Parasite Energy, which enables her to harness elemental power, such as a searing column of fire, to fight the monsters. These guns, built into the game with realistic fire rates, can even be upgraded with parts that you buy or find. Parasite Eve II features an enhanced, real-time battle system that will allow players to use a large array of modern weaponry. To do that, she must unravel the conspiracy that seeks the destruction of all humankind. Now working for the FBI in Los Angeles, Aya is called on to join the Mitochondrial Investigation and Suppression Team (MIST) to hunt down dangerous monsters and keep the disease from spreading. This story takes place three years after the New York incident of the first game, when the horrible mutations are supposedly a thing of the past. In other news, I transferred my save from emulator to a real PS1 (via OPL2), and while a lot of detail in the 3D is lost, the 2D elements look amazing on CRT.Aya Brea is back to defend the world from the mitochondrial menace in Parasite Eve II. But I kinda like the interactivity, even if it's on easy mode for numpties like me. I mean, I know I can just watch a long play. I'm actually contemplating seeing if there are cheats I can apply to zoom through the tough battles and see the amazing story first hand. But one that requires much more time than I have to give. If Square could give it the "Resident Evil 2" remake treatment, keeping what worked and applying modern quality fixes to the game, it works be superb. I'm rubbish at RPGs at the best of times, but this one has added "you need to have played the game three times to be good enough to play it right" vibes, which puts it a little out of reach for me I think. Lots and lots of "Game Over" screens that I wasn't seeing days 1-4. But I'm early into day 5 and struggling hard already. Overall I LOVE the presentation and story.
